Role Overview

PaptecJOBS is recruiting for a leading integrated paper mill in North India for the role of Deputy Manager – Mechanical Workshop.

This position is responsible for day-to-day mechanical workshop operations, precision machining, maintenance execution, and support to paper machines and allied plants, working under the guidance of the Workshop Head / Maintenance Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Mechanical Workshop Operations , Supervise daily operations of the mechanical workshop, including:
• Centre lathes / CNC lathes
• Horizontal & vertical boring machines
• Plano and conventional milling machines
• Radial drilling machines
• Surface and cylindrical grinding machines
• Paper machine roll grinding, polishing, and balancing equipment
• Slotting, shaping, and keyway milling machines
• Welding and fabrication facilities (ARC / MIG / TIG)
• Ensure machining accuracy, dimensional control, and surface finish as per drawings and standards.

Paper Machine & Plant Support

• Execute and coordinate paper machine roll grinding and precision machining jobs.
• Provide mechanical maintenance support to:
• Paper Machines
• Fiber Line & Chipper House
• Chemical Complex & Recovery Island
• Recovery Boiler & Power Plant
• Support shutdown maintenance, breakdown jobs, and system improvement activities.
• Carry out spares repairing, refurbishment, and in-house machining of components.

Maintenance Execution

• Execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities for workshop equipment.
• Monitor machine condition, alignment, vibration, and performance parameters.
• Assist in managing emergency and unplanned maintenance by prioritizing jobs as instructed.
• Prepare job cards, update maintenance records, and report work completion status.

People Supervision & Skill Support

• Supervise technicians, machinists, welders, and contract workers on shop-floor activities.
• Ensure discipline, productivity, and adherence to SOPs.
• Provide on-the-job guidance and skill support to technicians.
• Personally participate in machining or repair work when required.

Safety, Housekeeping & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with safety procedures, tools & tackles condition, and statutory norms.
• Maintain workshop housekeeping as per 5S standards.
• Support internal and external ISO and safety audits by providing documentation and compliance inputs.
• Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and non-conformities to seniors.

Cost & Efficiency Support

• Support cost control initiatives through material conservation, reuse, and repair.
• Assist in reducing downtime and improving workshop productivity.
• Support indigenization and repair of spares to minimize external dependency.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Experience in mechanical workshop operations within integrated paper mills
• Hands-on exposure to lathe, boring, milling, grinding, welding, and roll grinding machines
• Knowledge of paper machine maintenance and shutdown activities
• Ability to work hands-on and supervise shop-floor execution
• Strong safety awareness and compliance mindset
