The role focuses on detailed mechanical design, drafting, and engineering documentation, supporting project execution, procurement, and client approvals.
Role Purpose
The Design Engineer – Mechanical will be responsible for preparing, verifying, and coordinating detailed engineering drawings related to industrial piping systems and site-fabricated steel tanks, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design
- Prepare power plant and industrial piping layouts and isometrics
- Design and detail site-fabricated steel tanks as per API 650 / IS 803
- Develop GA drawings, fabrication drawings, and piping details
- Perform engineering design calculations as required
- Interpret and prepare P&IDs and piping schematics
- 3D Modeling & Drafting
- Generate 3D piping layouts using AutoPLANT 3D
- Translate 3D models into accurate construction and fabrication drawings
- Independently prepare, check, and finalize drawings for submission
BOQ & Estimation Support
- Prepare Material BOQs for procurement and estimation
- Support the estimation team with BOQs for new project enquiries
- Coordinate with the purchase team for material and equipment specifications
- Documentation & Client Coordination
- Prepare and submit engineering and quality documents for approval
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams for drawing approvals
- Support mechanical erection documentation and quality submissions
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Project Engineers at remote sites for drawing clarifications
- Coordinate with procurement, quality, and execution teams
- Ensure drawings align with site requirements and execution feasibility
Technical Competency Requirements
- Hands-on expertise in AutoCAD (mandatory)
- Working knowledge of AutoPLANT 3D
- Strong understanding of Piping design principles
- IBR & low-pressure piping systems
- Pumps, valves, and mechanical equipment layouts
- Sound knowledge of mechanical fundamentals, codes, and standards
- Familiarity with industrial fire fighting systems and fire codes (added advantage)
Relevant experience Requirement
- Power plant piping
- Industrial piping systems
- API 650 / IS 803 steel tanks
- Experience in engineering design offices or EPC environments preferred
